Manitoba’s Path to Permanent Residency: New Public Policy Announcement

Canada’s Strategic Immigration Plan: Facilitating Permanent Residency in Manitoba

In a recent communication, the Honourable Marc Miller, Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, outlined a proactive strategy in a letter to Manitoba’s Minister of Immigration and Labour, the Honourable Malaya Marcelino. This plan addresses the significant challenges posed by the upcoming expiration of post-graduation work permits in 2024. By initiating a one-time policy adjustment, the Canadian government aims to facilitate the transition of eligible temporary residents in Manitoba to permanent residency via the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). This vital measure is expected to significantly enhance Manitoba’s skilled labour force, ensuring its strength and diversity for the future. Minister Miller also highlighted his anticipation for the upcoming Federal-Provincial-Territorial Ministers Responsible for Immigration (FMRI) meeting, where further comprehensive immigration strategies will be discussed. This meeting underscores the critical role of multilateral collaboration in evolving Canada’s broader immigration landscape.
